M.E.C.C.A. Kids: Knowing and Loving the Family of the Prophet ﷺ

This summer, the children of M.E.C.C.A. Center were brought closer to our beloved Prophet ﷺ and his blessed family during our summer course M.E.C.C.A. Kids: Knowing and Loving the Family of the Prophet ﷺ

Under the creative, nurturing guidance of Ustadha Wajiha Khalil, our children learned about the profound humility and supreme sacrifices of the Ahl ul Bayt, who endured hunger and persecution, and who fought bravely against oppression and disbelief—some even sacrificing their lives—all for the sake of Allah.

There was Fatima Zahra (radi Allahu ‘anha), daughter of Rasulullah ﷺ, whose earthly garments were those of a poor slave yet she is the Queen of Heaven. And there was ‘Ali (radi Allahu ‘anhu), the great warrior who never lost a battle with his legendary split-bladed zulfiqar (ذو الفقار). He sold his broken sword as a mahr to marry his beloved Fatima. They learned how the blessed sandal of the Prophet ﷺ stepped into jennah during his miraculous Mi’rāj (المعراج) and how his blessed cloak was a source of healing for his Companions (radi Allahu ‘anhum). And of course, our children learned about the beloved grandchildren of the Prophet ﷺ, Hassan and Hussein (radi Allahu ‘anhumaa), who are the leaders of the youth in Paradise and the very source of the Prophet’s ﷺ lineage to this day—chief among them being our spiritual guide, Sayyidi Habib ‘Umar bin Hafiz (May Allah preserve him).

Ustadha then encouraged our children to express their love for the Ahl ul Bayt and the joy of being Muslim through their original, wonderful works of art:

  • septychs  – seven-paneled cardboard pieces, each panel using mixed media to tell a story about a member of the blessed family;
  • scrolls – dramatic pastel on newsprint scrolls depicting the Hijrah from Mecca to Medina;
  • sajdas – brightly colored canvas prayer rugs adorned with each child’s custom tempera paint stamp artwork depicting masjids, hearts, suns, and other images that inspire them;
  • “Mother’s Day” cards and crowns – colorful, bejeweled pop-up cards and crowns containing special messages of love for their mothers

One could not have asked for a better way to introduce our children to the family of our beloved Rasul ﷺ and to remind them of the importance of their own families.

We look forward to more classes with Ustadha Wajiha!
